„The most beautiful film about love in recent years” (The Guardian) was nominated to Oscar in 6 categories, including the best adapted script as well as leading and supporting actresses.
„Carol” is a melodrama full of emotions and refined images (Golden Frog Camerimage for Ed Lachman's pictures). The work of Todd Haynes is an adaptation of the novel written by Patricia Highsmith. The performer of the leading role is Cate Blanchett („Blue Jasmine”) Oscar winner, who was supported by Rooney Mara („The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) awarded for the best feminine role in Cannes.
The main theme of the „Carol” movie is relation between two women: young photographer and married woman who is thinking about divorce. Paths of both protagonists are crossed during Christmas shopping in New York. They become fascinated with each other during their first meeting and it quickly becomes something more than that – a feeling stronger than social conventions. The movie is about two different women who meet each other and follow the same path till the moment when it is impossible to be closer – says Todd Haynes about his work.
The world premiere of the movie took place during the last film festival in Cannes. The work of Todd Haynes received five nominations to Golden Globes and a record-breaking number of nominations to awards of the British Film Academy BAFTA.

Outstanding performances by Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara (…) make something special out of Carol, Todd Haynes’ fastidious, intelligent and somewhat leisurely adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s then-daring 1952 novel „The Price of Salt”. |The Hollywood Reporter
Todd Haynes's adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel is equally flawless and unforcedly classy as the protagonist. |Times UK
