Sustainable construction – tradition and modernity
is the title of the first nationwide Polish conference dedicated to designing and building in line with the precepts of sustainable development. The conference also considers the modernisation of historical premises. Organised by one of Poland's leading construction companies, MCKB, the conference takes place in Lodz on 12 February.
Taking place in the Lodz Special Economic Zone building in the Grohman Factory (ul. Tymienieckiego 22/24, Lodz) on 12 February, the event will focus on the way that sustainable construction principles are being implemented in Poland. Participants will have the chance to learn about many interesting examples of green building in our country. The conclusions of Polish and foreign market research on the profitability of this type of project will also be presented.
The conference is divided into two panels. The first one looks at the benefits of using sustainable construction solutions and their reception by investors, developers and tenants. The second panel is about the integration of cultural heritage into construction projects. Case studies will serve as the basis of discussion about refurbished historical buildings brought back to life, such as the award-winning Grohman Factory, (winner of the best restored building prize at last year's EXPO REAL Fair in Munich); the Manufaktura retail and entertainment complex; the nearby Andel’s Hotel; and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel located in the Łąkowa 29 complex – on the grounds of the former Lodz film studios. Also, the New Lodz Centre, an important ongoing project for the city, shall be discussed.
Among the speakers are:
- Marcin Klukowski, the architect who led the DoubleTree by Hilton project team,
- Jarosław Krawiec from Qualia Development,
- Błażej Moder representing the management board of the New Lodz Centre,
- Jean Marc Pivot, the main architect of Manufaktura,
- Tomasz Sadzyński, president of the Lodz Special Economic Zone,
- Rafał Schurma from PLGBC.
The organiser of the event is Lodz-based construction company MCKB, a general contractor focused on industrial, commercial and public buildings, a Polish National Champion in the construction sector in the prestigious European Business Awards contest.
Expert partners include: PwC, the Polish Green Building Council, the Lodz Special Economic Zone and the Business Centre Club – Poland's largest individual employers' organisation.
The event's media patrons include: E-biurowce, Poland Today, Builder, Eurobuild, EuropaProperty and TVP Lodz, Gazeta Wyborcza.
Taking care of the environmental issues associated with the projects we carry out is a vital element of MCKB’s activity. We build according to the rules and high standards set by the BREEAM and LEED certificates, which assess the influence of the buildings on the natural environment. We are a socially responsible company and our mission is accomplished through educational activities and promotion of ecological construction policy. By organising this conference, devoted to sustainable construction, we are expressing our responsibility for effective, energy-saving premises and our concern about the natural environment - says Piotr Grabowicz, president of the management board of MCKB.
