PLGBC Green Building Awards were awarded for the fifth time this year. The idea of this competition is promotion of modern approach to ecological construction. The jury assessed both application of the newest architectural trends and their adaptation to domestic and global environmental requirements.
The Warsaw Royal Wilanów office has already been awarded BREEAM at the Very Good level. Another distinction for ecological approach to construction was granted in the competition Green Building Awards organized by the Polish Green Building Council (PLGBC). Many ecological solutions were applied in the building, for instance, high level of office waste recovery; 75 per cent of them can be recycled. Hence, education and motivation of employees are crucial elements of waste management politics in Royal Wilanów; they are organized through manuals and pro-ecological events. First effects of these actions were presented in August (one year after commissioning); 3.5 tons of cardboard, 380 kg of glass, 50 kg of Styrofoam and 365 kg of plastic were recycled. The green roof of the building is also of great importance in pro-ecological activities. Except for aesthetic function, it also provides thermal isolation and allows to reduce heating and air conditioning costs.
The employees of Royal Wilanów can also benefit from alternative means of transport. They are provided with the Internet platform of carpooling, shuttle bus, or three stations on the car park allowing them to charge electric cars. Moreover, bicyclists have parking places (both aboveground and underground), changing rooms and showers as well as self-service stations for repairing bicycles at their disposal.
