The company PKP S.A. plans a new design of the main hall in Warszawa Centralna railway station and a part of underground galleries. According to the schedule, the construction works will begin at the end of 2014.
The contractor, selected in the invitation to tender, will implement the design developed by the studio SUD Architekt Polska Sp. z o.o. According to it, glass cubicles will disappear both from the main hall and the railway station, which will increase the commercial potential of the building. Instead of them, there will be a mezzanine, accessible from the level 0 via an escalator. The new space, created in this way, will be at the disposal of the tenants offering food and beverage services. Thanks to this treatment, passengers waiting for a train will be able to make use of the level of the station which was unfrequented up to now.
The project of beautifying Warszawa Centralna railway station involves also adjusting the western gallery - not renovated up to now - and a part of the northern gallery. The first one will be moved to another side, which will allow to get more space in the underground passages of the station.
According to PKP S.A., the construction works included in the tender will be implemented in stages to minimise the inconvenience to travellers. The completion of the construction works is planned for the third quarter of 2015.
