Relaxed neck and wrists
A common problem while working on the computer is wrong position of the hands. While typing on the keyboard, many people tend to put their wrists up. Because of that, wrists are weakened, which can lead to dangerous degenerations.
So, how to work at the computer properly? Relaxed position of the hands is crucial. During typing or using the mouse, arms should rest on the desktop. Special mousepads and keyboard pads can be used. You should not rest your arms on the edge of the desk. Thanks to that, arm stiffness during work can be avoided.
Another important matter is appropriate position of shoulders and arms while working. The worker should have the possibility to put arms on armrests, which enable natural posture while sitting. An angle between arm and forearm should be about 90⁰.
In the case of ergonomic solutions concerning arms and neck, it is important to appropriately organise the documents on the desk. The best way is to use a support, placed not far from the screen. During the work with so placed document, a natural sitting posture is maintained. Additionally, it is worth to care about the proximity of objects, used by the worker. Having stationery and important notes close at hand will limit the number of unnatural movements made during work.
Ergonomics in pair with modernity
An ergonomically designed office, can, paradoxically, be associated with an austere interior. But thanks to more and more modern solutions, an ergonomic office does not have to be antique or malfunctioning.
Ergonomics means adapting tools and conditions of the work to psychophysical demands of the employees, to make them more effective. A problem arises, when appropriate work conditions have to be paired with an innovative approach – claims Aleksandra Krawsz, Marketing and PR Manager at Kinnarps: We think that ergonomics is in pair with modernity. It can be in a sense of adjusting to technological novelties, which, unfortunately, is still not present in Polish law, which has settled in the 90's and on the computer screens, while soon most of the people will be using tablets. It can also be in a sense of modern methods and styles of management. When we have to deal with knowledge workers, their motivation, creativity and effectiveness are the most important methods of gaining competitive advantage. All that helps it is important - with the ergonomics at the forefront.
Ergonomic arrangement of the office is important not only because of the health reasons, but also because of the law requirements concerning work stations. A regulation of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy from the 26th September 1997 concerning occupational safety and health obliges the employer to provide safe and appropriate work conditions. The employer has to guarantee additional equipment, which will increase work comfort. Adjusting office space to these individual needs of the employees does not mean the abandonment of creative design.
