Thanks to “Girls in New Technologies” programme, seven students from universities will receive a payable internship in the biggest companies from modern technologies industry in Poland. The Office of Electronic Communications is realizing this programme second year at a time.
Only in Poland in the nearest years we will need over 900 000 qualified specialists from IT trade. It is such an absorptive labor market that I would like to convince all mothers, fathers and young girls, who are currently studying on technical fields of study, to not decide on retraining because it is a certain place of work – says Magdalena Gaj, chairman in the Office of Electronic Communications.
“Girls in New Technologies” project is supposed to encourage students to choose such career and enable them a good start in their professional life. The first edition of the programme was held in 2013 – then 6 laureates received payable internships in such companies as Cisco Systems, Motorola, SAS Institute and Sygnity. This year, among 40 sent writings (23 of which satisfied requirements of the competition) 4 students won the prize. Moreover, Microsoft and Telewizja Polska joined the group of companies which offer internships.
Thanks to advanced technological solutions, the work in the area of new technologies is very attractive for women because it gives them a possibility to combine working and private life. All modern forms of work simplify the life of a woman who has many other tasks to do in home except from work in comparison to men – judged Gaj. – You have to be present at home and these modern technologies allow you to do it through telework with an interesting body.
Magdalena Gaj points out that this project is more and more thriving. Additionally, it is also a great success in the area of close cooperation of the state administration with private companies from ICT sector. The next edition of the contest is planned on spring 2015.
