A path easier than you think
Some people associate changing careers mainly with laborious work and a big investment into something that may not bring satisfactory results. But a career change can be really viable, although the decision must be made with a use of common sense described above. My opinion is that such an important decision as changing your job or starting your own business requires good preparation. It took me a few years to get ready to make this decision - stressed Tomasz Wiśniewski - I think that in today's world one subject is not enough. The market changes so quickly that holding onto one profession we may not end up very well off. It is best to start creating a new business after your working hours, checking whether it will work and whether we will function well as business owners. It is similar when it comes to changing your job, which means that when planning a drastic change related to your job, it is best to use your free time for training, reading, meeting people from a given branch, building relationships and creating contacts. Working shifts, we are most often limited when it comes to our possibility to decide about changes in our work and which tasks we want to delegate to others. That's why personally I recommend starting your own business to be able to control it all.
To make sure that the decision about a career change is right, it is important to contemplate a few of its aspects.
According to career trainers, who often help their clients to change their professional profile, it is important to establish the place, in which the person willing to change their qualifications finds themselves. Establishing the exact place on the career path will enable them to take a step in the most beneficial direction.
Another important aspect is also deciding what a person wants to do in the future. Making changes just for the sake of it is pointless. Only clear goals have a real chance of being achieved.
It is also important to recognize the exact reason why the changes are being made. Being aware that changing careers may lead to unemployment or low income will be a good incentive to take action.
Like with any other decision it is important to consider both the advantages and the disadvantages. Weighing down the positives and the negatives will make it clear whether the decision being contemplated makes sense and whether it will be beneficial for a person's professional career.
The last step is to specify the time scale for obtaining new qualifications. It is important to decide on it reasonably. To claim that a person will take part in an online course till midnight in a situation when they usually go to sleep around 10PM after a whole day of work does not make sense. A person deciding to change their career cannot be fooling themselves, it has to be a well-planned action.
The road to a change in a person's career does not have to be rocky. Tomasz Wiśniewski admits that today's education market is broad enough to allow anybody willing to change their qualifications or branch they work in to easily find an appropriate training source. A good resource for various materials and courses is the Internet. Nowadays, to take part in a training course people do not have to move from in front of their own computer. Also the possibility to complete the course at times of a person's own choice offers the perfect solution for those, who only have time to learn new skills after work.
People concerned they may end up not finishing what they have started when it comes to changing careers are advised to get help from a trainer or a career coach, who will not only guide them in the right direction, but also motivate them to implement those changes in real life.
Knowing how to make a sensible decision about a career change and how to go through the whole process, a question arises whether it really is worth making such drastic changes. But the transformations happening extremely fast to the job market should prove that it is the right way forward.
I think that today's employers shouldn't expect the worker not to run their own business or not to accept another employment. After all, they do not guarantee future employment, this is understandable - stresses Tomasz Wiśniewski - The era of shifts is ending and both the employers and the employees understand, that flexibility and freelancing are a must and they are beneficial for both sides.
