The lecture with Nathalie de Vries was titled „From vision to the project” and it was held on 26th March in Warsaw Wola Center. The large audience had a chance to listen to an interesting view about a modern architecture on the basis of projects which are currently being realized by the MVRDV studio – one of the most recognizable architectural studios all over the world which has been creating the public space of the biggest cities for years. It was the city architecture which was one of the main topics included in the performance of a Dutch designer.
The lecture with Nathalie de Vries was a part of annual meetings organized by the Stefan Kuryłowicz Foundation. They are held every year to commemorate the death anniversary of a late Stefan Kuryłowicz – one of the most influential Polish architects, who died tragically in 2011. The choice of Wola Center on the meeting place was not incidental because the architectural design of that structure was developed exactly in the Kuryłowicz & Associate studio. Moreover, the new programs of the Foundation were also presented within the event, the main goal of which is to support the work of young architects:
The Practice Competition is a 6-month long program aimed at students and graduates from architecture. The chance for gaining a financial and substantive support is provided to young architects who have their own ideas how to develop a public space in the city. The subject of the realization is Warsaw. The project, which is being realized within a grant, will end with a public presentation. The fund of the grant amounts to over 20 000 zlotys.
The next point was a presentation of work prepared by laureates of the second edition of the Theory Award Competition – Bartłomiej Cybula and Maciej Żołnierczuk, titled „Cultural Language of Glass Architecture”. The presentation was followed by an announcement of the third edition of the competition. The most ambitious authors of texts which are devoted to relations between architecture and culture are competing with each other in order to obtain financing for releasing a bilingual book publication which is an award in this competition. The electronic versions of the entries are available on the website of the Foundation.
Moreover, there is a possibility to send own texts this year. Except for a bilingual publication, the laureate will be awarded a prize in the amount of 3 500 zlotys. The registration for both the Theory Award Competition and the Practice Competition is free. It may be done till 30th June 2015 on the website of the Foundation.
