Improvement of the access to the harbor in Gdynia from both the land and the sea was a priority not only for the management board of the harbor, but also for the city. Investments in the access infrastructure of the harbor are planned in the nearest future.
The city will be supporting activities related to creation of access infrastructure to the harbor. Hence, the discussion about the Red Road, that is extending of the Tricity ring road in order to reach the harbor in Gdańsk – says Wojciech Szczurek, president of Gdynia. The city and the harbor are actually a one organism, two lobules of lungs and thus they have to develop harmonically. Hence, the planning policy concerning both the area of the harbor and around it has to be particularly observed and controlled by the city so that it could be possible to create development conditions for the harbor not only today but also in the future – adds Szczurek.
Except for development of road infrastructure, investments in the area of enhancement of accessibility of the harbor to the railway and marine transport will be made. In the last aspect, the plans include building of a turntable and deepen of approach fairways for ships. The tender for realization of a new turntable will be announced in January 2016. Its building will enable service of much larger containers than at the present moment.
At present, the sector of marine economy is in its development stage. Thanks to its expansion, new fields are currently being developed such as ship management. The functioning companies in the sector, which are specialized in production or designing, are searching for market niches allowing to existence and effective competition on the foreign markets. It is worth mentioning that there are more and more international successes right now. It all shows that the marine economy regained its glare and strength and it may become one of the most interesting and important areas of economic development in the country – believes president Szczurek.
