Absolute World Towers¸ a Canadian skyscraper, has been awarded with a prestigious prize Emporis Skyscrapper Award 2012. The international jury has selected this edifice from over 300 sky raisers, which were finished the last year and had over 100 in height. Portal Emporis has given the prize for the thirteenth time.
Absolute World Towers, designed by MAD and Burka Architects, consist of five buildings, including two towers. The two towers, which are respectively 176 and 158 metres high, were awarded for an original design as well as a remarkable technical achievement, this being a „twist” by 8 degrees per floor
Al Bahr Tower, designed by Aedas Architects, was awarded with the second prize for its arousing admiration innovative façade, both in terms of architecture and energy. The external façade rotates accordingly to sun’s position that in turn reduces the energy consumption inside of the building. Architects drew inspiration from Arabian windows mashrabiya.
The jury decided to grant the third place to Burj Quatar, a 238 metres tall skyscraper located in Doha, Quatar. The object was designed by atelier Jean Nouvel. Its facade, similarly to Al Bahr Tower, was also inspired by windows masrabiya.
