This building is a symbol for those who did not believe that this area would be alive again and the industry would be prospering here and giving new workplaces – said Teresa Kamińska, President of the Management Board of Pomeranian Special Economic Zone during the ceremony that was held on the last, tenth level of the office building near Częstochowska 3 street.
The office building Akwarium was opened on January 23, 2013, less than a year after laying the cornerstone. The building is to be used as the office and administrative background for the companies that are planning to invest on the area of Baltic Port of New Technologies. Modernized building is located where the old Stocznia Gdynia used to be.
At the opening ceremony, such notable persons were presented as the president of Gdynia Wojciech Szczurek, The Marshal of the Voivodship Mieczysław Struk and The Vice-marshal of the Voivodship Ryszard Świlski. Also presented, were the chairmans of the largest companies of sea industry and offshore who invest on the area of old Stocznia Gdynia S. A. and give new workplaces. Among them, there were e. g. the representatives of Crist shipbuilder, Energomontaż, shipbuilders Nauta, Gafako, Vistalu and Hydromega. The new office building was consecrated by father Edward Pracz, European Coordinator of Sea People Priesthood. During the ceremony, goldfishes were symbolically put into aquarium with a model of the building in it.
The office building's name refers to the term that was used by the workers when the building was functioning as the premises of Stocznia Gdynia's authority, who were commonly called “big fishes”.
Akwarium offers 7 000 sq meters of modern office space. In the building, an air conditioning is mounted, as well as the heating system made of air pumps. The rooms are facilitated with floors, light points and suspended ceilings.
The office building is now hired in over 60 per cent. It is located in the scope of Pomeranian Special Economic Zone. Owing to this fact, the companies that hire space in Akwarium can count on the public aid and allowances package.
