Construction of the Taipei 101 skyscraper, located in Taipei, Taiwan, cost as much as 1,76 billion dollars. This building, the biggest on Earth in years 2004-2007, is 509 metres tall and was opened for use in 2004. On the 91th storey of Taipei 101 there is an open beauty spot. C.Y. Lee & Partners studio was responsible for the architectonic design, and the most of the building’s parts were approved by a Feng Shui specialist. The specific arrangement and architecture was based on number 8, considered lucky in Chinese culture.
The second most expensive office building is, currently the tallest in the world, Burj Khalifa, is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Its construction cost 1,5 billion dollars. The building is 828 metres tall and has 163 storeys. Its construction finished in 2010. Studio, responsible for the architectonic design is Skidmore, Owings And Merrill LLP, known all over the world. The original name of the building was to be Burj Dubai, however, it was changed in honor of the president of United Arab Emirates – H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan. „Burj” in Arabic means „a tower”. The building is located on an artificial lake. On the top there is a vantage point and a private club.
„Only” one billion dollars cost the construction of Bank of America Tower, located in new York. The building is 366 metres tall, which gives it 26th place on the list of the tallest buildings in the world. It was designed according to the rules of sustainable buildings and was opened for use in 2009.
Next places were taken by Chifley Tower, located in Sydney, Myer Centre in Adelaide (Australia) and SunTrust Financial Centre in Tampa (USA). All of them also cost one billion dollars. Next were New York Times Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and The Bow (Calgary, Canada), built for 850 million dollars. Tenth on the list is ANZ Tower in Sydney, which cost 800 million dollars.
